Summary:Starting with concrete requests for the intercultural competence of a German university lecturer in China, the concept of intercultural communication is outlined in theory, in its didactic importance to the academic teaching in general and to the requests of a Chinese university in special. To impart intercultural communication not only as theoretic construction, but also to show and to learn its practical relevance, it is specified in concrete handling with the intercultural children's book "Jim Knopf," written by Michael Ende in the sixties of the 20th century, and in reflections of the students on this subject and on their experience.
