Summary:Former general practitioner Cirencester (b Dublin 1916; q Trinity College, Dublin, 1938; DTMH, FRCGP), d 22 February 2001. Undeterred by a permanently ankylosed knee joint, he joined the Malayan medical service. In 1942, he supervised the evacuation of his wife and two young children from Singapore, ahead of the Japanese advance, and was interned in Changi prison when the island fell.
