Summary:Without the skills and intentions to launch their careers with a running start, business students' success, and the usefulness of their degrees, are compromised. This regrettable but common occurrence can be significantly reduced with co-curricular activities that focus students' attention on career preparation early in their college programs. Business students who completed the Career Steps, a 15-week online career-development course, significantly increased their familiarity and confidence in career-development skills and rose in measures of adult development, such as adult identity, career goals, and self-efficacy. We present and discuss the course, the study's findings, and implications with respect to the viability of this option for faculty and administrators seeking options for improving graduates' career prospects.
