Summary: | An obituary for Yoshiko Kakudo, a curator, artist and philanthropist, who died on Jan 12, 2016 at the age of 81, is presented. Kakudo was the founding curator of Japanese art at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Working with the museum's first director, Rene-Yvon Lefebvre d'Argence, and Avery Brundage, its major benefactor, she enhanced the meager Japanese art collection and, later, through publications and lectures, made it one of the best known in the US in her tenure of thirty years. in her own unique way, she also pursued artistic goals and lasting philanthropic achievements throughout her life. |
