Summary:We applaud Peter Tyrer and colleagues for attempting critical assessment of the effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs in the treatment of aggressive behaviour in people with intellectual disability (Jan 5, p 57).1 Although a welcome catalyst for debate, their finding that placebo was equally effective has unfortunately already received simplistic media attention23 and will inevitably cause anxiety for many carers and professionals.
