Summary:An abstract of a study by Harmon et al evaluating forage production, animal performance and carcass merit from forage-finished steers grazing four warm-season annual forages is presented. The grazing trial was conducted in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Sixteen pastures were assigned to one of four forage treatments in a randomized complete block design. Forage treatments were brown midrib sorghum x sudangrass (BMR), sorghum x sudangrass (SS), pearl millet (PM), or pearl millet planted with crabgrass (PMCG). Results suggest that cattle on BMR, SS, PM, and PMCG perform similarly, giving producers the option to match a forage type based on the availability, cost, and their production system.
