A105 CRITICAL CARE: IMPROVING PROGNOSTICATION IN CRITICAL ILLNESS: Inflammasome Activation Is Associated With Ards Mortality, Particularly In Patients Randomized To Statin Therapy

Rising IL18 was associated with death at 60 days only in patients exposed to statin (OR 3.4 in patients exposed to statins vs 1.3 in the placebo group, pinteraction=0.03 (Figure 1)). Importantly, statin exposure in an RCT lead to rising IL18, suggesting inflammasome activation as a potential mechani...

Summary:Rising IL18 was associated with death at 60 days only in patients exposed to statin (OR 3.4 in patients exposed to statins vs 1.3 in the placebo group, pinteraction=0.03 (Figure 1)). Importantly, statin exposure in an RCT lead to rising IL18, suggesting inflammasome activation as a potential mechanism for the failure of multiple clinical trials of statins for ARDS.
