C29 ADVANCES IN PULMONARY IMAGING TO STUDY LUNG STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION: Muc5b Promoter Polymorphism Rs35705950 Is Associated With CT Evidence Of Interstitial Lung Abnormalities Using Visual Reads From The Spiromics Cohort

Summary:SPIROMICS Corresponding author's email: woneal@med.unc.edu Introduction: The minor allele of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs35705950 in the mucin 5B (MUC5B) gene is a strong genetic risk factor for development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Rs35705950 was independently predictive (p=0.0026) of visual CT evidence of ILA in NHW at risk-smokers and COPD subjects in a multivariate model that also included covariates for lung function, current smoking status, age, gender, smoking pack years, presence of emphysema, and indications of chronic bronchitis.
