Sputum samples were collected from left over routine samples from the Medical Research Council unit, The Gambia (MRCG) TB Diagnostic laboratory. The samples were processed using the standard N-acetyl-L-Cysteine-NaOH (NALC-NaOH) methods currently used and Kudoh swab method.
