Summary:Rationale: LYPD2 (LY6/PLAUR domain category 2), a paralog of SLURP1, is a gene of unknown function expressed at high levels in the normal human airway epithelium. Based on observations that SLURP1 is a positive modulator of the a7 nicotinic receptor expressed on airway epithelium where it acts to defend the respiratory epithelium by suppressing responses to inflammatory stimuli, we hypothesized that LYPD2 may function in a parallel fashion.
