Summary:Nowadays in the globalized market the role of tourism is rapidly increasing. Under the conditions of severe competition cross cultural awareness provides better and more qualitative and personalized approach, which attracts more regular clients to hotels as well as other accommodation types. The goal of the study is to analyze the differences and similarities in terms of intercultural issues in the process of dealing with clients and provide an insight into cultural peculiarities of different European countries in order to provide qualitative tourism product. The present study is conducted in the framework of Erasmus+ project "Key Skills for Hotel Staff" which is aimed at creating and designing materials that will provide hotel staff, trainees and students with learning materials in the field. This contribution offers an insight in the analysis conducted in partner countries (Latvia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Romania, UK) regarding specific cultural peculiarities of all EU countries as well as of those where the most inbound tourists come from. The suggestions elaborated will help hotel management to enhance international collaboration and to manage the hotel and the staff moreefficiently. Conclusions: Nowadays hotel employees are expected to provide more personal touch to customers, which means not only a standardized approach, but also cross cultural knowledge and skills, including verbal and non-verbal language and appropriate, culturally aware behaviour.
