Summary: | The serum, soft tissue and peritoneal fluid concentrations of both amoxicillin and clavulanate, achieved following the administration of 1g and 200 mg, respectively, are in excess of the minimum inhibitory concentrations of key potential pathogens, and therefore a larger dose is considered unnecessary. Since the recommendations are pragmatic, we entirely support the need for active surveillance of infection and further appropriate clinical trials. |
