Summary:Numerous studies confirm that despite an inclusive-oriented school students with special needs (SN), especially students with learning disabilities (LD), lack in social skills. The aim of the empirical research was to establish whether students with learning disabilities (LD) attending regular primary school experience difficulties in social skills compared to their peers without LD. More specifically, we examined the following: interpersonal problems in youth, social anxiety and self-concept. The basic research findings indicated statistically significant structural differences between the students with LD and their peers. The two groups differ in terms of difficulties in social interaction. Students with LD experience more difficulties. In comparison with students without LD, students with LD have more difficulties speaking and acting in public, and in relationships with family members and friends. Statistically significant differences between the groups also appeared in tension and inhibition in social contact and social anxiety: students with LD are more anxious and reserved in social contacts than their peers and generally express a higher level of social anxiety. Significant differences exist also in the area of self-concept: the peers show higher academic, social and general self-concept than students with LD, while similarities between the groups can be seen in their physical self-concept.
