Summary:binscatter is a newly released program that produces binned scatterplots, which provide a non-parametric estimate of a conditional expectation function. This presentation will describe the features of binscatter, and explore its versatile applications. Those applications include: observing the relationship between two variables in large datasets, visualizing OLS regressions, visualizing regression-discontinuity designs, plotting event studies, and visualizing IV regressions. The emphasis of the presentation will be demonstrating how binscatter can be used to complement the empirical techniques most commonly used in applied economic research.
