Summary: | Umbu-cazajeira (Spondias sp.) is an Anacardiaceae, native to the semiarid region of Northeast Brazil. The objective of the present work was to characterize fruits from selected umbu-cajazeira genotypes, aiming to identify those with potential use by the grower. Twenty fruits from each genotype were selected for the physical, chemical and physical-chemical characterization; only healthy fruits were sampled. The following analyses were carried out: descriptive, Pearson's correlation between variables, and multivariable analysis. Variability was detected for most characteristics, the coefficient of variation varying from 2.79% to 26.7%, even considering a group of genotypes already selected. The correlations were positive and highly significant for some associations, mainly longitudinal diameter and the longitudinal/ transversal diameter ratio, and fruit mass and pulp yield. In the multivariate and cluster analysis, UCIT-10 was the most divergent among the genotypes and the UCSR- 45, UCSE-36, USSR-44, UCSB-40, and UCSE-35 genotypes stood out for presenting satisfactory values for the following variables: fruit mass, percentage of pulp yield, soluble solids, tritable acidity and soluble solids/tritable acidity ratio; which are of commercial interest. |
