Summary:Obesity is a major public health concern with 1 in 3 children and adolescents in the USA being either obese or overweight. Early childhood obesity has been associated with a number of factors including maternal prepregnancy body mass index (BMI), nutritional factors, physical activity, screen time and sleep duration. This observational study investigated early childhood obesity in a large population of children from a pediatric primary care network in the US. Information from the electronic records database including patient demographics, anthropometric measurements, visit diagnoses, and medications were reviewed to assess the relationship between antibiotic prescription and related diagnoses before the age of 24 months, and the development of obesity in the following three years.
