Summary: | The operational performance and efficiency measures of traffic density; revenue ton-miles per employee and employee hour; revenue ton-miles per carload; average tons per train and tonmiles per train hour; and, average length of haul have all improved substantially since the initial trials of merger absorption of the 1990s. Statistical correlations measuring the degree of strength of the linear relationship between each of these independent variables with the dependent variable, operating ratio, and the percent of variation in the operating ratio dependent variable explained by the regression equation with each of the independent variables were found to be significant. |
