Summary: | Singlemode GaAs based vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) are being investigated for high bit rate data transmission in an industrially relevant temperature range between -20 degrees C and 100 degrees C. The bit error rate for 2.5Gbit/s transmission over 250m of graded index multimode fibre (MMF) is better than 10^sub -11^ for all temperatures under fixed bias and modulation conditions. The temperature dependent power penalty for 250m MMF transmission is as low as 0.009dB/K. |
