Summary:The purpose of this research is to determine if high school students' attitudes towards reading show difference depending on various variables. The research sample consist of 525 students selected stratified random sampling from studying in 10 high schools in Buca district, in Izmir. 272 girls and 253 boys participated in sample. The study was performed as a descriptive study. The data was collected by using the attitude towards reading scale which was developed b y the researchers. The results of this research indicate that high school students' attitude towards reading level mostly "high", the reading attitude scores of high school students show a significant difference with regard to genders and weighted lessons but mothers and fathers' education levels and jobs; furthermore, there was a positive but an avarage correlation between students' attitudes towards reading and reading time and, the number of books they read; but a negative and low correlation with monthly family income. According to these results several suggestions were made to improve high school students' attitudes towards reading. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
