Summary: | This study aimed to compare two methods of leaf area estimation: leaf area integration and ImageJ software, in bean plants. The experiment was conducted in 2008, in a greenhouse at the Federal Technological University of Paraná, Campus Pato Branco, Paraná, Brazil. Leaf area was studied in two bean genotypes (black CHP 99-54 and carioca SCS 202 Guará) every seven days, totalizing five assessments. At each assessment four plants per genotype were randomly selected. The leaves were removed, identified and placed on a sheet of A4 white paper with black markings of known area (45cm^sup 2^) and then photographed and assessed by the leaf area integrator. From the values obtained with each method, position statistics of dispersion were estimated, the variance normality and homogeneity of variance was tested by Bartlett's test, the means were compared by t-test, and the concordance index Willmott was applied to mathematically evaluate the estimated and observed values. It was found that for the majority of leaf area assessments, estimates with both methods have a normal distribution, the means and variances do not differ between themselves, and the Willmott index agreement values were high for the bean genotypes studied. Thus, the method for estimating leaf area using the ImageJ software can be used instead of the methods of leaf area integrator. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
