Summary:A question an answer advisory on whether it is ethical to sign a form stating a patient received a preventive care examination when he actually received a different form of care is presented. Among other things, Raimann says this scenario raise a number of ethical considerations that are addressed in the American Dental Association Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct. In this case, the treatment provided was a limited oral evaluation to relieve the patient's plan. Documenting the patient's treatment in a misleading fashion could greatly damage the social trust. The best option in this case would be to treat the patient, discuss one's concerns and provide him with a form or letter stating the treatment that was provided.
