Summary:EU countries are applying new models and more coordinated approaches to professional education and vocational guidance. What about persons with special needs in the context of inclusion? They enter the education processes and programmes in various ways, paths and programmes with or without adaptation, and are equally entitled to career counselling, education and employment. How to adapt, if this is the case, professional education to persons with special needs? Here are entirely new challenges faced by all, persons with special needs, educators and counsellors (counselling services). Special needs students seem to have a higher dropout rate when it comes to succeeding in school, and also face tougher circumstances when entering the labour market. This is because they have more difficulties avoiding pitfalls, and have to overcome a number of barriers in their career. It is at the onset of establishing a career path that the guidance teacher emerges as an important aide for the students. In vocational education and guidance of people with special needs, the method of "individual strengths" is being tried. Vocational guidance, based on "strengths" can be one that stimulates and directs people to areas of involvement, where they can achieve great advantages. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
