Summary:Advances in econometrics have enabled various approaches to be taken to macroeconomic analysis, fundamentally from the viewpoint of forecasting. In recent years the use of empiricist models has become widespread, i.e. models which establish no a priori constraints but allow the data themselves to point to the relationships between variables. This article summarised the Vector Auto-Regression (VAR) method from a theoretical viewpoint, and then goes on to illustrate an application of the technique to a field wich has as yet not been sufficiently explored:the analysis of the relationships between the main economic magnitudes in the Autonomous Community of the BasqueCountry.
