Summary:The aim of this study was to verify the body fat percentage (%BF) calculated through six equations estimates with that obtained by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in women of middle-aged and older physically active. It is a study transversal and descriptive, in which the sample was of the non-probabilistic and intentional, consisted of 46 healthy women with mean age of 65.9 ± 8.0. Descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient for the inter-correlation estimates, correlation coefficient Lin's concordance to assess the reproducibility and the procedure of Bland and Altman to assess agreement between the equations and DXA were used in this study. The confidence interval was 95%. Despite the strong correlation between all the equations and DXA, there was low agreement between the methods. Although none of the equations has been shown to be entirely reliable to estimate %BF in women of middle age and older, one of the equations seemed to be more advantageous to overestimate %BF in a lesser degree than the other equations. This, from the clinical point of view, may be acceptable to lead the adoption of physical activity habits and healthier food as measures involved in the accumulation of body fat.
