Summary:This chapter presents cases in the healthcare domain where either the technology is developed ad hoc for a specific setting or it is a consolidated off-the-shelf solution. In the first situation, the main issues concern the complexity of the technology, the reaction of the hosting organization, and a possible change of the surrounding conditions. The two cases presented met these problems and encountered different types of outcomes. In the second situation, the main issue is the strategy the hosting organization adopts to incorporate the selected technology in the current work practices and technological ecology. In two of the three presented cases, the organizational strategy was to involve the frontline users in the change management, which led to a high level of appropriation and more effective procedures. In the third case, the technology was imposed from the top and its adoption generated a high resistance.
