Summary: | Parent training is a critical component of effective intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With the rise in ASD, the need for evidence-based and cost-effective parent training has never been greater. The focus of parent training has generally been on teaching parents procedures for dealing with core symptoms of ASD such as social communication deficits and challenging behavior. Parents have been effectively trained to implement various procedures to aid in the treatment of their children using many different teaching formats, training settings, intensities/lengths of training, and training techniques. This chapter reviews current research examining such variables as well as provides practice recommendations stemming from this review. |
