Summary: | Under the OMEGA programme, the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) continues to carry out the development of partitioning processes, nitride fuel technology, and a basic study to support the development of accelerator-driven systems (ADS). The current status of the technical issues to realiseADS are summarised: high-intensity proton accelerator, lead-bismuth technology, subcritical level, power control for the core, beam window and spallation target, and the Transmutation Experimental Facility proposed in the framework of the High-intensity Proton Accelerator Project: J-PARC. Further, the roles of P&T on high-level waste disposal including cost estimate are summarised. Kyoto University and KEK are moving forward with the experimental project Accelerator-driven Subcritical Reactor (ADSR), in which a small proton accelerator called Fixed-field Alternating Gradient (FFAG) will be coupled with a critical assembly, KUCA... |
