인터넷 지도의 심볼 디자인에 관한 연구

최근 포털사이트를 포함하여 위치 기반 서비스(LBS)를 이용한 서비스가 증가하고, 일반인들도 지도를 활용한 소셜 커뮤니티 활동을 통한 인터넷 지도 서비스 및 사용률이 증가하고 있다. 이러한 인터넷 지도는 사용자가 원하는 정보를 빠르고 정확하게 찾을 수 있도록 도심, 지형, 도로, 바다, 강 등의 지형에 대한 색채, 지명에 대한 주기, 심볼의 디자인 요소를 주로 사용하여 디자인된다. 이 중에서 심볼이란 장소 정보를 사용자가 직관적으로 인식할 수 있도록 표현한 인터넷 지도의 상징적 기호이다. 특히, 인터넷 지도에서는 레벨별로 지도를 확대 축소하는 과정에서 축척 1/500에서부터는 동과 지하철, 아파트 등 주요 정보와 함께 심볼이 표현된다. 따라서, 종이지도에 비해 많은 심볼이 사용되고, 지명을 인식하고 그 유형을 판단하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 인터넷 지도에서 사용되는 심볼 디자인의 현황을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 인터넷 지도에서의 효과적인 심볼 디자인을 위한 개선안을 제안하고 인터넷 매체에 적합한 심볼 디자인을 위한 고려 사항과 한계점을 논하고자 한다. Recently, internet map services and usage rates are increasing because location-based services (LBS) has increased and the socio-cultural activities using maps by ordinary people has expanded. These internet maps are designed around the color of the terrain(City, Terrain, Road, Sea, River, etc.), the notes on the place names, and the symbol elements so that users can quickly and accurately find the information they want. Among them, symbol is a symbolic sign on an Internet map that expresses place information so that a user can intuitively recognize it. In particular, in the process of enlarging and reducing the map for each level in the Internet map, from a scale of 1/500, symbols are expressed along with main information such as buildings, subways, and apartments. Therefore, compared to paper maps, symbols are used a lot, and users can recognize place names and places of interest and easily know about the types. In this paper, current status of symbol design used in internet maps is analyzed, suggest improvements for effective symbol design on internet maps based on this, limitations for symbol design suitable for internet map are discuss.
