서양의학사 연구 동향과 전망, 2011~2020: 연구주제의 확장과 새로운 방법론의 모색

This article examines the historiographies of western medical history in Korea and abroad during the last decade. For the former, it analyses scholarly articles of western medical history published in the Korean Journal of Medical History and other journals in Korean academia. Its analytic overview of the historiographical development of western medical history in foreign academic societies encompasses the articles published in the three world leading journals (the Bulletin of the History of Medicine, Social History of Medicine, and Journal of History of Medicine) and monographs reviewed in these journals. This article studies those articles and books from quantitative and qualitative perspectives assessing research periods and topics, analytic methods and approaches, source materials, and writing styles. In providing comparative analyses between Korean and foreign academia of the western history, this study argues for the necessity to establish sustainable developmental plans for western medical history specialists in Korean and build a globally networked academic platform and avenues to communicate with researchers in other part of the globe.
