조병화의 세계 기행시에 나타난코스모폴리탄적 주체의 정위 방식－ 1950~60년대 시를 중심으로

이 글은 조병화의 세계 기행시에 나타난 코스모폴리탄적 경험과 사유를통해 초기 조병화 시의 주체인식의 구조를 탐색함과 동시에 1950~60년대공론장의 주체들이 자기정체성을 구성하는 중층적이면서 균열적인 정위방식에 대해 해명할 수 있는 계기를 모색하고자 한다. 일반적으로 코스모폴리타니즘은 주권국가의 권리보다 보편적 정의와 윤리를 우선하며, 국가단위의 시민성보다 지구단위의 인류애를 원리로 한다. 1950~60년대 한국의 코스모폴리타니즘 담론은 한국전쟁의 경험으로부터 확장된 3차 세계대전의 공포와 세계평화에 대한 현실적 요구로부터 출발하여 담론은 무성하였지만, 현실로 매개되지는 못하였다. 이러한 코스모폴리타니즘에 대한 세계이해 담론과정에서 그것을 시적으로 전유한 경우가 바로 조병화의 세계기행시이다. 조병화는 국제 PEN대회 참석을 위한 공적 여행을 통해 세계 기행시를산출하게 된다. 세계 기행시에 나타난 코스모폴리탄적 감각을 정리하면다음과 같다. 첫째, 에트랑제의식과 코스모폴리탄적 보편성 인식이 나타난다. 에트랑제란 여행자, 이방인, 외국인을 지칭하는데, 조병화는 여행자인시적 주체뿐 아니라, 지구상의 인간 전체를 에트랑제로 인식한다는 점에서 인류적 보편성을 확보한다. 탈국경, 탈인종 경험과 보편 죽음의 사유를통해 코스모폴리탄적 주체를 그려내고 있다. 둘째, 역설적이게도 조병화의코스모폴리타니즘은 반공주의에 영역 안에서 이루어지며, 타국의 선진성을 발랄하게 스케치하면서 한국의 후진성을 담지하고 있다. 조병화의 세계 기행시에 나타난 코스모폴리타니즘은 당대 한국의 공론장에서 생성된 세계이해를 전유하고 있으며, 나아가 세계 기행시를 통해일국에 갇힌 개인 주체를 세계인으로 보편화한다는 점에서 개인의 정체성을 중층적으로 정위하고 있다. 그러나 코스모폴리탄적 보편성과 반공주의적 후진국가인이라는 특수성이 논리성을 확보하지 못한 채 봉합되어 있다는 점에서 한계를 드러낸다. This report is to find the structure of sense of subject on poems by Cho,Byeong-hwa at his early age and to find the opportunity to explain multi-level and deviating method composing self-identity by actors of public sphere in 1950s~1960s at the same time through cosmopolitan experiences and reasons on his world travel poetry. Although discussion of cosmopolitanism in Korea in 1950s~1960s was overgrown from expanded fear of the third world war and practical demand for world peace, it was not mediated to reality. Cho, Byeong-hwa’s world travel poetry is the poetic possession of such universal discussion regarding cosmopolitanism. The cosmopolitan sense on Cho, Byeong-hwa’s world travel poetry can be evaluated as follows. At first, the Etranger sense and perspective of cosmopolitan universality are revealed. The word Etranger indicates a traveler, an alien, or a foreigner, and Cho, Byeong-hwa secured panhuman universality by cognizing not only a traveler, or poetic subject, but also the entire mankind on the Earth as an Etranger. Second, paradoxically, Cho,Byeong-hwa’s cosmopolitanism is established within the domain of anti-communism, and while it vividly sketches advancement of other countries, it firmly holds backwardness of Korea. Although Cho, Byeong-hwa’s world travel poetry orients the identity of individual in multi-level by generalizing an individual as the entire world, it is limited by the fact that it is sealed without securing logicality of the generals and the particulars.
