Summary: | Modernization of China and Democratization of KoreaDuring the period of modernization, China and Korea both followed the path that Western countries were already on. After the opium war, China concentrated on building up its national strength and science to escape from its humilation by the West. On the other hand, Korea, which was under American influence after the Japanese rule, focused on establishing a democratic country.Throughout the 20th century, China had been trying to become independent and unified country by building up their economic strength and establishing independent diplomacy. However, Korea was still divided into north and south due to a strong anticommunist policy deepening dependence on other countries. The two countries now have important duties to accomplish for their modernization. They both need to become more highly developed. This can be done when the ideology of globalization harmonizes with that of localization. KCI Citation Count: 0 |
