Summary:The Possibility of the East Asia Free Trade Area and China's StrategyWith the Asian financial crisis causing huge difficulties for Asian developing and developed economies, and a subsequent new wave of sub-regional trade arrangements emerging in the Asia Pacific, there were some fresh suggestions in china proposing CKJFTA as well as China-ASEAN FTA.This paper will analyze the evolution of Chinese attitudes and policies towards the FTA. China has long been known to be indifferent to free trade agreements. However, recently it has changed its stance, becoming more positive in nature.AT present, discussion concerning the topic of the CKJFTA is warming up. This has largely been driven by China with its accession of FTA with ASEAN. The plan to establish FTAs in East Asia will confront some difficulties, particularly with unfavorable factors such as the relationships with the US and ASEAN.EAFTA is conducive to China's multi-polarity. It is well known that China seeks multi-polarity to weaken and curb hegemony and power politics, and economic order. This requires China to make efforts through its initiatives and to support regional economic and political arrangements including FTAs to reduce regional anxiety about the so called "China thereat".
