Summary:A Study on the Relationship between 'Nangezis' as Dunhuang Dance Note and Its Music and the Words of SongsThe ancient poetry has been produced and circulated with a connection to music. It is often accompanied by dance. Ultimately, it has been lead to the composite art in which music, songs and dances are working together. Especially, Yanyue燕樂 acquired a great vogue in Tang dynasty, which caused to level up its music and also to develop the words of songs in various forms and ways. Studying dance notes found in the scrolled copy of Dunhuang, with a research on the musical note, will be very important materials for total study of Chinese verse of Tang唐 dynasty. In this paper, I will try to arrange the research works for the beats, motions and positions of the dances appeared in three dance notes "Nangezi"南歌子. With revaluating them, I will also try to find out two facts on the relations among dance, the words of songs and music. Firstly, the dance note of Nangezi has been used in Jiuling酒令 of the banquets of Tang dynasty. Secondly, short melody of Nangezi has also operated with dance. It proves that dances in Tang dynasty has been prevalent even in very short tunes in the civilians as well as in the great piece of music of the Royal Court. As a conclusion, Nangezis as very good materials are to prove that fork tune with dance in Tang dynasty has formed the composite art. KCI Citation Count: 2
