통전적 기독교 노년 죽음교육의 모색 - Fin-Telos 모델을 중심으로

본 연구는 1) 죽음의 의료화와 존엄한 죽음에 대한 소망, 2) 노인들의 높은 자살률, 3) 죽음에 대한 축소와 부정현상, 4) 왜곡된 혹은 불가지론적인 죽음이해, 5) 죽음의 공동체적이며 공적 차원의 상실, 6) 기독교교육 현장에서 죽음교육의 부족과 평생교육 차원의 부족 등과 같은 오늘의 상황적 요청에 기초하여 기독교 노인교육의 핵심으로서 통전적인 신앙을 양육하는 죽음교육 모델을 제안한다. 호모 헌드레드 시대로 지칭되는 오늘의 상황에서 기독교 노년 죽음교육은 노년들의 마지막 인생여정을 신앙 안에서 행복하게 잘 마무리하고 영생의 삶으로 진입하도록 도와주는 생명교육이며 평생교육이다. 잘 죽기 위해, 또한 잘 살기 위해 죽음 교육이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 것을 전제하면서 오늘의 교회 노년교육, 노년 죽음교육, 죽음에 대한 이해와 죽음의 단계, 죽음에 대한 성서적, 신학적 기초, 죽음교육을 위한 노인이해, 죽음교육의 의미와 국내외 사례 등을 다학제적 연구를 통하여 비판적으로 고찰한다. 그리고 이에 기초하여 대안적 기독교 노년 죽음교육으로 Fin-Telos 모델을 제안한다. 통전적 신앙 형성의 통로로서 Fin-Telos 모델은 죽음교육이 결코 삶의 종말만을 다루는 교육이 아니라 하나님의 백성들의 좋은 삶을 위한 생명교육이며, 동시에 개인적-실존적 차원의 죽음이해와 사회적-공적 차원의 죽음이해가 통합되어야 함을 강조한다. This essay proposes an alternative model of Christian death education for nurturing holistic faith amongst older adults. This model confronts the following social trends and challenges towards death: 1) the medicalization of death and hope for a respectful death, 2) a high rate of suicide among older adults, 3) the reduction and denial of death, 4) a distorted or agnostic understandings of death, 5) the loss of communal and public implications of death, and 6) the dearth of opportunities to receive death education and life-long education in the first place. In the contemporary “homo hundred” era, Christian death education for older adults is both a life-giving education and a life-long education that helps older adults complete their lives in matured faith and prepared to eternal life. Death education is required for dying well and living well. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, this essay explores issues confronting contemporary death education for older adults in the Korean Church and society, meanings of death and stages of death, biblical and theological understandings of death, developmental features of older adults, and examples of death education in three countries. Finally, this essay poses an alternative model of Christian death education for older adults, called the Fin-Telos model. As a passageway of nurturing holistic faith for older adults, the Fin-Telos model emphasizes the following two aspects: First, death education by no means only helps us deal with the end of our lives, but a life-giving education that teaches us how to lead a good life as people of God.
