제주도 상창리 제4기 퇴적층 연대와 화산활동

본 연구에서는 제주도 상창리 일대 용암층 사이에 협재하는 미고화 퇴적층의 퇴적 연대를 측정하였고 이를통하여 퇴적층 상부 용암층의 화산활동 시기를 추정하였다. 퇴적층에서 채취된 탄화된 목편과 토양 시료에 대한 방사성 탄소(14C) 연대와 광여기 루미네선스(OSL) 연대측정 결과, 상창리 미고화 퇴적층은 약 5,000년 전후에 형성된 것으로 추정된다. 따라서 미고화 퇴적층 상부 용암층의 경우 5,000년 이내에 형성되었음을 알 수 있다. 이번 연구결과는 제주도에 광범위하게 분포하는 제4기 미고화 퇴적층들의 연대 측정을 통하여 최근까지 진행된 제주도 내륙에서의 화산활동 시기와 화산활동 휴지기 동안의 환경 변화 규명이 가능함을 지시한다. In this study, depositional age of unconsolidated sediments located in Sangchang-ri, Jeju Island basedon optically stimulated luminescence dating (OSL) and radiocarbon dating from wood charcoal and bulk sedimentswas estimated. As a result, depositional age of unconsolidated sediments is approximately 5,000 years ago. Therefore, volcanic sequence overlying the unconsolidated sediments would be expected to be younger than 5,000years. The new age dating result of unconsolidated sediments in Jeju Island indicates a recent lava flow followinga volcanic eruption from the inner part of Jeju Island and the possibility of reconstruction of environmental changesbetween the volcanic activities.
