Thyroid abscess is an unusual type of head and neck infection, because thyroid gland has complete fibrous encapsulation, generous vascular and lymphatic supply, and high local iodine level. The infection is usually caused by the staphylococcus, streptococcus or pneumococcus and is characterized by a sudden onset, fever, chill, leukocytosis and variable symptoms and signs of inflammation in the thyroid gland and the lower cervical region. We experienced a case of thyroid abscess by streptococcus intermedius in 22 years old woman. She manifested anterior neck swelling and fever. After the pathogen was identified by fine needle aspiration, percutaneous drainage and saline irrigation with proper antibiotics were performed immediately. She was discharged with clinical improvement. So we report a case of thyroid abscess by streptococcus intermedius. KCI Citation Count: 0
