인과적 과잉결정과 배출 논변들은 수반논변을 손상시키는가?

김재권은 최근 수반/배제논변의 과정을 명료화하고, 정신인과의 가능성을 설명하기 위해서는 환원을 선택할 수밖에 없다는 그의 종전 입장을 다시 한 번 확인하고, 이 논변의 주 논점을 약화시키려는 두 논변들 - 인과적 배출논변(causal drainage argument)과 인과적 과잉결정 논변(causal overdetermination argument) - 에 대해 다시 대응한다. 김의 수반논변에 대해 네드 블락은 먼저 배제원리가 성립하게 되면 정신인과를 포함한 모든 거시적인 수준의 인과적 힘이 그것의 하위 수준의 속성으로 배출되게 되며, 두 번째로 만약 현대물리학의 주장에 따라 가장 밑바닥의 토대가 존재하지 않는다면 모든 인과는 존재하지 않는 결과를 초래 한다고 주장한다. 한편 크리스프와 월필드는 김에 의해서 제시된 이전의 수반논변이 딜레마의 상황에 빠지게 되는 결론으로 귀결되지는 않는다는 것을 정밀한 인과적 과잉결정의 논변을 통해서 보이려고 한다. 이들의 주장은 위의 블락의 주장과 직접적으로 연결되어있다. 비환원주의의 입장에서 배제논변은 이치가 통하지 않는 주장이며, 김의 설명적 모델과는 달리 그들에 따르면 다양한 각 수준들(levels)이 존재하고 각 수준 마다 인과가 존재하기 때문에 과잉결정은 김이 배제논변을 통해서 보이고자 하는 것과 같은 문제가 되지는 않는다. 이 비판들에 대한 김의 대응에서 특히 인과적 배출을 막는 방법으로 그가 제시한 수준존재론(level ontology), 그리고 미시기초속성들(micro-based properties)의 존재에 관한 논리와 주장은 문제점들을 내포하고 있으며 이 논문에서 비판적으로 검토될 것이다. 이 논문의 주된 목적은 김의 배제논변과 관련된 다양한 논의들을 비판적으로 검토하여 정신인과의 문제를 해결하기 위해서 환원주의를 선택할 필요가 없다는 것을 보이는 것이다. 주 제 심리철학 주요어 수반/배제논변, 인과적 배출논변, 인과적 과잉결정논변, 다수구성논변, 수준존재론, 미시기초속성들 My aim in this paper is to argue that Kim is unable to respond to the critics of the exclusion argument within the boundary of the local reductionism. To do this, I will critically discuss the exclusion argument that Crisp and Warfield criticize, and also critically examine what the argument implies on which Block focuses to argue that if Kim's argument holds, that leads us to two problems: one saying that causal powers drain down to the bottom level of elementary particles and the other one saying that if there is no bottom level of physics, causal powers drain away for good. I will conclude that Crisp and Warfield's causal overdetermination and Block's causal drainage arguments undermine Kim's argument in a manner that we don't have to go with the identity-based reductionist option to provide the best solution to the problem of mental causation.
