디지털 전환, 동태적 역량, 개방형 혁신의 구성주의적 상호작용이 스타트업의 파괴적 혁신 잠재력에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 스타트업의 디지털 전환 전략이 파괴적 혁신 잠재력에 미치는 경로를 규명하고자, 동태적 역량의 매개 효과와 개방형 혁신 강도의 조절 효과를 단일 분석 모형으로 통합 검증한다. 기존 연구가 디지털 전환을 기술 채택 수준으로 파악하거나, 파괴적 혁신을 풍요 자원 조건의 기업 중심으로 해석해 온 한계를 비판적으로 검토하고, 자원 제약성과 전략 민첩성이 교차하는 스타트업 맥락에서 디지털 전환 전략·동태적 역량·개방형 혁신의 상호작용을 구성주의적 관점으로 재배치했다. 실증 분석은 서울·경기 지역 기술 기반 스타트업 187개 사의 구조화된 설문 자료를 활용하여 조절된 매개 효과를 검정했다. 분석 결과, 디지털 전환 전략은 동태적 역량을 통해 파괴적 혁신 잠재력에 미치는 유의한 긍정적 영향을 확인했다. 개방형 혁신 강도는 디지털 전환 전략의 직접 경로와 동태적 역량을 통한 간접 경로 모두에서 순수 조절 요인으로 작동하며, 그 강도가 중간 이상일 때에만 간접효과가 통계적으로 유의하게 증폭되는 조건부 영향이 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 이론적으로, 디지털 전환 전략을 조직 전략 구조와 가치 창출 메커니즘 전반의 질적 전환으로 재개념화하고, 그 효과가 동태적 역량의 매개를 통해 발현됨을 실증했다. 아울러 개방형 혁신을 외부 자원 보완 차원을 넘어 디지털 전환 효과성을 내·외부적으로 조율하는 전략적 촉진 요인으로 위치시키고, 자원 제약 환경에서 일정 수준 이상의 개방 강도가 혁신 잠재력을 실질적으로 강화하는 임계 조건임을 제시한다. 실무적으로는, 스타트업이 파괴적 혁신을 실현하기 위해 디지털 기술 도입을 조직 전반의 변환 프로그램과 연계하고, 동태적 역량을 학습·재배치·실행의 프로세스로 내재화하며, 개방형 혁신 강도를 임계 수준 이상으로 관리하는 구성주의적 경로 접근을 제안한다. 이상의 분석 결과는 자원 제약 맥락에서 전략·역량·개방의 정렬을 통해 파괴적 혁신을 실현 가능한 결과로 전환하는 방법을 제시한다는 점에서 학술적·실무적 함의를 지닌다. This study examines how a startup’s digital transformation strategy shapes disruptive innovation potential by integrating the mediating role of dynamic capabilities and the moderating role of open innovation intensity within a single analytical model. We address limitations of prior work that views digital transformation as mere technology adoption and interprets disruptive innovation mainly in resource-abundant settings. Adopting a constructivist perspective, we relocate the interaction among digital transformation strategy, dynamic capabilities, and open innovation to the startup context, where resource constraints and strategic agility intersect. Using survey data from 187 technology-based startups in Seoul and Gyeonggi, we test a moderated-mediation model. Results show that digital transformation strategy positively influences disruptive innovation potential through dynamic capabilities. Open innovation intensity operates as a pure moderator on both direct and mediated paths, and the indirect effect becomes significant only when openness is at least moderate, indicating a threshold condition. Theoretically, the findings reconceptualize digital transformation strategy as a qualitative shift in an organization’s strategic architecture and value-creation mechanisms whose impact materializes through dynamic capabilities. They also position open innovation as a strategic facilitator that tunes digital transformation effectiveness internally and externally, and identify a threshold level of openness that strengthens disruptive innovation potential under resource constraints. Managerially, the study proposes a constructivist pathway for startups: link digital initiatives to enterprise-wide transformation programs, institutionalize dynamic capabilities as learning, reconfiguration, and execution processes, and manage openness above the threshold. We offer academically grounded, actionable guidance on converting strategy?capability?openness alignment into realizable disruptive innovation outcomes in resource-constrained environments.
