젠더 관련기사에 달린 성차별적 댓글이 기사 및 기자에 대한 신뢰도 평가에 미치는 영향

연구자들은 여성 기자를 대상으로 한 성차별적 무례댓글 노출이 해당 뉴스에 대한 이용자들의 뉴스신뢰도 평가에 유의미한 영향을 미치는지 알아봤다. 이를 위해 연구자들은 성폭력 암시, 외모 비하 등 성차별적 표현을 담은 무례댓글을 젠더 무례댓글로 정의하고 20대 남녀 261명을 대상으로 2(젠더 무례댓글 vs. 비젠더 무례댓글)x2(젠더 관련기사 vs. 비젠더기사) 온라인 실험연구를 실시했다. 연구 결과, 젠더 무례댓글과 비젠더 무례댓글 노출에 따른 신뢰도 인식에는 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 하지만 젠더를 주제로 하는 기사에 젠더 무례댓글이 달린 경우 이용자들의 뉴스신뢰도 인식이 유의미하게 낮았다. 더불어 젠더 무례댓글이 달린 젠더 관련기사에 노출되었을 때 뉴스신뢰도 평가가 성별 및 성인지감수성에 따라 달라지는지 살펴본 결과 남성의 경우 여성에 비해 해당 기사에 대한 신뢰도를 낮게 평가했다. 하지만 성인지 감수성에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았다. Researchers examined whether exposure to sexist and uncivil comments directed at female journalists significantly affects users’ credibility evaluation of news and journalists. To investigate this we defined uncivil comments containing sexist expressions—such as references to sexual violence and derogatory remarks about physical appearance—as gendered uncivil comments. A 2×2 online experimental study was conducted with 261 men and women in their 20s, manipulating two factors: (1) gendered uncivil comments vs. non-gendered uncivil comments, and (2) gender-related articles vs. non-gender-related articles. The findings revealed no statistically significant differences in the credibility evaluation between exposure to gendered uncivil comments and non-gendered uncivil comments. However, when gender-related articles featured gendered uncivil comments, users’ perceived credibility in the news was significantly low. Furthermore, the study explored whether exposure to gendered uncivil comments on gender-related articles influenced credibility evaluations based on gender and gender sensitivity. The results showed that men rated the credibility of such articles lower than women. However, there was no significant difference in the credibility perception based on gender sensitivity.
