Summary:The risk of dust explosions for mixed metal dust generated during the shot blasting process was analyzed. The dust explosion characteristics and minimum ignition energy were compared for mixed metal dust generated during the shot blasting process (Sample A), for mixed metal dust generated during the shot blasting process that involved some iron oxide due to an explosion (Sample B), and for iron dust (Sample C). Sample A and C yielded maximum explosion pressures of 3.8 and 4.4 bars, respectively, at a concentration of 750 g/m3, whereas Sample B yielded a maximum explosion pressure of 3.5 bars at a high concentration of 1,500 g/m3. Sample C had the highest maximum explosion pressure and dust explosion index, which entails that it had the highest dust explosion intensity, and it had the lowest minimum ignition energy based on the flame, which implies that it had the highest dust ignition sensitivity. Sample A was determined to have a high risk of dust explosions because its minimum ignition energy was higher than that of Sample C. KCI Citation Count: 0
