유튜브 정치 동영상의 선택적 노출이 확증 편향과 정치 참여에 미치는 영향 연구: 정치 효능감의 조절 효과를 중심으로

본 연구는 유튜브 알고리즘과 정치 콘텐츠의 영향력이 증대되는 현실 속에서 유튜브 정치 동영상의 선택적 노출이 확증 편향과 정치 참여에 미치는 영향을 규명하고, 정치 효능감의 조절 효과를 검증하였다. 2024년 3월 15일부터 19일까지 성인 유튜브 이용자 300명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였으며, Hayes의 Process Macro를 활용하여 조절된 매개효과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 선택적 노출이 확증 편향을 증가시키고, 확증 편향이 정치 참여를 높이는 것으로 나타났으며, 정치 효능감이 이러한 관계를 조절하는 것으로 확인되었다. 특히 정치 효능감이 높을수록 확증 편향이 정치 참여에 미치는 영향이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 유튜브 정치 동영상 이용의 정치적·사회적 의미를 규명하고, 정보 처리와 정치 참여 간 메커니즘을 이해하는 데 기여한다. 연구 결과는 미디어 리터러시 교육 및 정치 참여 증진을 위한 정책 수립에 필요한 시사점을 제공한다. 향후 연구에서는 알고리즘의 영향력을 직접 측정하고, 종단적 연구를 통해 인과관계를 더 명확히 규명할 필요가 있다. This study examines how selective exposure to political videos on YouTube influences confirmation bias and political participation in an environment where YouTube algorithms and political content have growing influence. An online survey was conducted with 300 adult YouTube users from March 15 to 19, 2024, and Hayes’ Process Macro was used to analyze moderated mediation effects. The results indicate that selective exposure increases confirmation bias, which in turn enhances political participation. Political efficacy was found to moderate this relationship; individuals with higher political efficacy showed reduced effects of confirmation bias on political participation. This research contributes to understanding the political and social implications of YouTube political video consumption and sheds light on the mechanisms connecting information processing and political participation. The findings provide valuable insights for developing media literacy education and policies to promote effective political participation. Future research should directly measure algorithmic influence and employ longitudinal designs to clarify causal relationships. KCI Citation Count: 0
