Summary:Gim (laver) is a popular seaweed in South Korea and worldwide, boasting abundant dietary fiber and minerals. Iodine, an essential nutrient for human health and development, is widely recognized to be abundant in the Gim. The increasing global population has driven the demand for a broader range of wild and farmed Gims, necessitating increased monitoring data. This study assessed iodine exposure through Gim consumption by analyzing its concentrations in various samples (99 samples from Korean coastal areas). The mean iodine concentration ranged from 0.401 to 16.952 mg/kg (average: 5.386 mg/kg wet weight). However, the estimated daily intake (EDI) of iodine from edible Gim was below the approved limits, suggesting no health risks associated with Gim consumption by Koreans. KCI Citation Count: 0
