Summary:Background: Unilateral vocal cord paralysis can occur due to various causes. Among them, unilateral vocal cord paralysis that takes place after endotracheal intubation is often caused by damage to the left recurrent nerve branch during endotracheal intubation, which can cause dysphonia and dysphagia. The treatment method is selected by considering the location of vocal cord paralysis, the presence or absence of muscle atrophy, etc. The treatment methods mainly include drug therapy, injection laryngoplasty, and voice therapy. Case Summary: Patients with unilateral vocal cord paralysis who did not improve after injection laryngoplasty was treated with acupuncture and Jakyakgamcho-tang. After receiving acupuncture treatment three times a week and taking Jakyakgamcho-tang three times a day for 24 days, the dysphonia was completely cured. Conclusion: This study suggests that acupuncture and Jakyakgamcho-tang could be effective in improving the symptoms of unilateral vocal cord paralysis after endotracheal intubation.
