Summary:Background: The aims of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of oblique-thickness reconstruction in computed tomography (CT) analysis of temporal bone fractures for determination of the three-dimensional relationships of the identified fracture lines. Materials and Methods: Using high-resolution CT of temporal bones, oblique-thickness reconstruction images were obtained using the V-works 4.0 software program (Cybermed, Korea). Reformatted images were analysed at the sites where fractures were identified. Fracture lines were traced by changing the angle and thickness to create an oblique-thickness reconstruction image. Results: Oblique-thickness reconstruction was used to create images in various directions and angles and to trace fracture lines. The reconstructed fracture lines guided identification of the fracture lines and demonstrated the relationships of these lines with the temporal bone, skull base and neurovascular structures. Conclusions: Oblique-thickness imaging tools used with CT may help with identifying the degree of injury, performing surgical planning and predicting the prognosis of temporal bone fractures.
