Summary:Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between spirituality and Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) in patients with depression. Methods : A total of 136 depressed outpatients were surveyed with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT-Sp) and PANAS. Correlation analysis, Independent t-test analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were performed to identify the relationship of spirituality with positive and negative affectivity. Results : In univariate analysis, FACIT-Sp showed a significantly positive correlation with positive affect. In logistic regression analysis, FACIT-Sp was a significant predictor for positive affect after adjusting for BDI, STAI and other demographic factors, while it was not an independent predictor for negative affect. Conclusion : These findings suggest that spirituality might be associated with higher positive affectivity in patients with depressive disorders. Enhancing the positive affectivity has more possibilities to help in the treatment of depression. KCI Citation Count: 2
