대한지질학회 지질과학용어위원회는 국제층서위원회(International Commission on Stratigraphy)에서 매년발간하는 International Chronostratigraphic Chart의 한글판을 “국제지질연대층서표”라는 제목으로 다음과 같은 번역 및 음역/음차 기준에 따라 발간한다. 1) “누대”와 “대”, 고생대와 중생대의 “기”, 신생대의 “세”에 해당하는 지질시대 이름은 현재 사용되는 한글 표기법을 그대로 유지한다. 2) 나머지 지질시대명은 어원의 의미를해석하여 표기하거나, 문화체육관광부 고시 제2017-14호, “외래어 표기법”을 참조하여 어원을 음차하여 표기한다. 국제지질연대층서표의 지질시대는 지질연대단위로 표기한다. The Committee for Geological Science Terminology of the Geological Society of Korea publishes the Korean version of the International Chronostratigraphic Chart published by the International Commission on Stratigraphy based on the following criteria: 1) names of geologic times of “Eon/Eonothem” and “Era/Erathem”, “Period/System” of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic, “Epoch/Series” of the Cenozoic are noted as they are currently translated and transcribed; 2) other geologic times are noted by translating the meaning of their word origin or by transcribing them referring to “Foreign language notation rules (notice no. 2017-14)” published by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
