Abstract The 12 chapters of this book review the somatoform disorders, a group of conditions with somatic symptoms for which no organic cause can be demonstrated and that are thought to be due to psychological or "functional" disturbances. The chapters cover classification, assessment, and management of these illnesses; fatigue and chronic fatigue syndromes; hysterical conversion; and abdominal, cardiorespiratory, gynecologic (including premenstrual syndrome and chronic pelvic pain), and dermatologic symptoms at presentation.
