Summary:Mutants of Rana ornativentris, which are frogs with superfluous forelegs, keep appearing in Yamada Green Zone, Kitakyushu City that had been used as an ammunition storage area. It was clarified from artificial mating that these deformities were inherited to progeny. We isolated and identified a pseudomonad stain that can efficiently degrade a high concentration of TNT (1g/L) from soils of the above place. In this meeting, we reported about the following three points. 1. TNT-biodegradable bacterium is a new species judging from 16S rDNA homology search. 2. Plasmid DNA (pTNT;about 74kb) that is hold on this strain participates in transformation of TNT. 3. Some mutants produced by transposon (TnMod-OKm) accumulate each TNT metabolite in the medium.
