Summary:This paper aims to describe the case frame and argument structure of the verb ‘kata (go)’ in a corpus. Since ‘kata’ is a polysemous verb, the corpus usage was classified depending on it’s meaning. Then case frame and argument realization were examined. Through this quantitative approach, it was found that ‘kata’ as movement verb has a high demand of ‘goal’. In addition, the ratio of the ‘goal’ combined with particles ‘ey’ and ‘lo’ was similar, while the ratio of ‘goal’ combined with ‘ul’ was very low. The ‘goal’ combined with ‘lo’ is shown to be preferred in certain phrases. In addition, the type of noun that appears as ‘goal’ was examined. Meanwhile, the transitive use of ‘kata’ was examined in relation to the use of movement verb. In some of the use of transitive verbs and serial verb construction, the realization aspect of the constructions related to the ‘purpose’ of movement was also described.
