갈등에 대한 칸트의 이해에서 인간성과 인격성

본 논문은 칸트가 이성의 한계 안에서의 종교 와 「세계시민적 관점에서 본보편사의 이념」에서 제시한 인간의 근원적 소질들에 대한 분석을 통해 다양한 갈등들의 원인을 이해하고, 칸트가 그와 관련하여 제시한 바람직한 윤리적 공동체의 특성을 검토함으로써 통해 갈등 해결 방안을 모색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 칸트는 사회적 패악이라 불릴만한 다양한 갈등들의 바탕에 인격성의 소질에 기반한 동기보다 동물성의 소질과 인간성의 소질에 기반한 동기들을 우선시하는 악의로의 성향이 놓여 있다고 주장한다. 이러한 관점에 따르면, 인격성의 소질에 기반한 동기가 동물성의 소질과 인간성의 소질에 기반한 동기들을 인도하도록 준칙들의 형식적 관계를 바로잡음으로써 다양한 갈등들을 해결해나갈 수 있다. 또한 칸트에 따르면, 이러한 동기들의 윤리적 질서를 바로잡는 결단은, 선의지를 회복하고 자 하는 각 개인의 노력에 그쳐서는 안 되고 도덕적 이념에 의해 인도되는 윤리적 공동체를 건립하기 위한 사회적 실천으로 이어져야 한다. 보다 구체적으로, 인간성의 소질과 인격성의 소질 사이의 윤리적 질서는 보편적 세계시민상태를 실현해 나가려는 구체적인 노력을 통해 삶에 적용되어야 한다. 인간성과 인격성의 관계를 통해 설명될 수 있는 도덕적 원리가 실제 정당한 세계시민사회의 확립을 위한 노력으로 구체화할 때 우리는 선의 이념에 의해 인도되는 갈등 해결 방안을 모색할 수 있다. In this paper, I seek principles for conflict resolution by examining Kant’s analysis of the original predispositions in human nature and his suggestions concerning the establishment of ethical community. Kant argues in Religion Within the Boundaries of Mere Reason that human beings have the original predispositions of animality, humanity, and personality and that our propensity to prioritize the predispositions of animality and humanity over the predisposition of personality lies at the basis of various conflicts. According to this analysis, an ethical order among these original predispositions should be established by subjecting the predispositions of animality and humanity to the predisposition of personality. Kant also argues that such an ethical ideal should be applied to the actual efforts to establish an ethical community for all human beings. More specifically, Kant argues in the “Idea for a Universal History with a Cosmopolitan Aim” that the effort to overcome the moral evil which grounds various social conflicts should be combined with the efforts to establish a universal cosmopolitan condition. According to this suggestion, we can seek principles for conflict resolution by combining the efforts to restore the good will with the efforts to establish an ethical community for all human beings in a universal cosmopolitan condition.
